EAB works???
New Jersey: Hunterdon and Warren counties Hunting Vacation Outdoor Life, Aug 97 http://www.outdoorlife.com/outdoor/destinations/tripsearch/articl ... Deer biologist Dan Ferrigno, with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, points to several management zones in the Garden State as being better for older age-class bucks. These are the zones governed by recently imposed “earn-a-buck” regulations, which stipulate that hunters take an antlerless deer before hunting for bucks. The areas included in the earn-a-buck program are zones 5, 7-14, 36, 41, 50 and 51, which cover most of northern New Jersey. But hunters should focus on Hunterdon and Warren counties. “In a lot of these earn-a-buck areas, we’re seeing 40 to 50 percent increases in the number of bucks producing seven points or more,” Ferrigno says. The program is designed to decrease doe numbers in agricultural areas, but it has had an added benefit. “What we ended up with in these zones is a really good formula for antler development,” says Ferrigno. He states that in the three years since the program was initiated, decreased buck-hunting pressure combined with the excellent habitat has allowed many more deer in these zones to reach older ages and grow impressive racks. Ferrigno estimates the pre-hunt deer population in the Garden State to be 150,000 to 170,000 deer, with overall numbers declining due to aggressive ef __________________ There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and Statistics.

| I think it make sense too and think NJ should institute a 6pt or better in all zones (unless your a youth hunter or first deer ever, or something). We have to be responsible and shoot off some of these doe's. I also think we should have a mandatory reg so doe has to be taken prior to taking a second buck in the six day firearm season. This is when you get the bulk of the NJ hunters in the woods. I mean common, what are you doing with that scrubby rack anyway putting it in a box in your garage?? Let em grow, Shoot a doe!!! | ||

I agree with you mostly. I would rather see Jersey copy Delaware regulations. In De, you are allowed 2 bucks per year PERIOD. One must be a trophy buck with a spread as wide as the ears I believe. People would think twice on shooting that poor 60lb. spike then. They also have unlimited does. I think after 2 you need to purchase more tags at an extra cost. I understand they have farm country as well as the importation a few decades ago with deer, but I tell ya what....They have a hell of a QDM going on down there. Remember guys, I'm from south jersey too.....They kill everything with antlers. No one passes them up __________________ Wildlife Expressions Taxidermy

| I think 1.5 year old buck harvest would drop but doe's would be better managed. Real deer hunters don't quit. Some horn hunters might. | ||

in reality you have to shoot does to keep the ratio in check or all your gonna see is dinkers one property i hunt easy 20 to 30 does a night if a buck comes your lucky to see 4 points the problem with this property is you cant kill enough does because after a few hunts they backyard it![]() __________________ i pay to hunt here....do you "pay to hike here"
