| I am usually a treestand hunter with the bow. I located an area that looks like it would be good, but you cannot realistically put a treestand there. I'm planning on setting up there later in the season if necessary. Basically I know how to make a ground blind, but I would like to know if anyone has had recent success using ground blinds during bow season and the types of shots you had and maybe some setup tips etc.. | ||

I ussually start with a log frame and fill it in with brush and what not...give yourself a nice background and plent of shooting lanes. That military camo blankets work great for ground blinds. I ussually find something as a base like a large downed tree or a large rock or something so I can just add onto instead of moving all kinds of crap and making a big deal about it. Simplicity is great!
Pay close attention to winds though...they are key when hunting from the ground. I dont care how mucyh scent blocker and scent cover crap people use the winds are a must especially from the ground. I shot one 2 years ago from a ground blind and past several deer and had a close encounter with a bear last year. Also if your building it now...remember the leaves will die shrivel and fall off the branches so be concious of it if you dont go to fix-er-up before you hunt it. Did that once and showed up to a ground blind with no cover LOL. I have a couple blinds up now and most of them are in corners...where hardwoods meet fields so I can cover both sides. Great for 360 degree hunting. Also leave an entrance/exit that you can get in/out of without making much noise for the stalk. When the deer dont get in range take it upon yourself to make them in range and get out and move some its such a rush! __________________ DB's Euro Mount Service
