NJ Hunter / New Jersey Deer, Bear & Turkey Hunting / Deer Action / Deer Zone 36 / Opening day 10 point...Still can not believe it!! (pix)

Well this morning started off like everyone else's, sweating my butt off 20 feet up. I managed to pull off a very tuff shot on a doe at 31 yards that was on high alert and behind a load of thick stuff. The doe was shot in zone 5. After spending the rest of the day sweating, driving to Simon Peters, scouting and knocking on doors to find a new spot to hunt(didnt work out at all), my Dad and I squeezed in a hour nap. We got on stand at 6pm for the afternoon post(zone 36) and I had a 7 point in full velvet walk under me at about 7pm. Then a couple of does went by headed towards my Dad who was hunting over the feeder. I was hunting a stand over a major run that headed that direction. About 10 minutes before dark I hear a crack and turn to see this 10 point at 30 yards and closing. I managed to get the bow up and drawn back with this buck quickly closing the distance. I made a sound to stop him at 15 yards broad side and pulled off a heart shot. He ran 60 yards and fell within sight. I have got to be the luckiest hunter there is, being able to tag out on a buck like this on opening day. Well enjoy the pics......

good jobI don't understand why you would be knocking on doors to find a place to hunt when you have access to deer like the one you killed

I lost 5 hunting spots in the last year, one being a good size farm. I gained one last year by chance. Not good odds

Thanks for the congrats guys. I really feel very fortunate. Hope everyone kills a nice one this year.

Wow, great day...congratulations!  I only had the bucks part of my day, which of course meant that I couldn't shoot them...just look at them for 45 minutes.
