I believe I take generally good care of my bow (Compound) and wipe it down good if I am hunting in rain, carry it in a case, etc. I do have some bow wax that I coat onto the strings here and there. Should I periodically put bow wax on or only 1-2 times during the season? Do I put the wax on the entire string?
Anything else I can be doing to keep my bow in good operation? There are some knowledgeable people on this site so that's why I am asking. Thanks guys. No problems as it's shooting great right now, but just wondering what others do so that I can include some more maintenance steps during the upcoming season. |

I wax my strings after each, or every other shooting session. Mind you, I shoot 50 arrows per session. I keep the cam surfaces clean of wax and I use compressed air on the hard to reach areas after a dirty hunt. I check my screws and bolts for tightness after each shooting session. I make sure the let off screw doesnt move. Thats about it for me. Keep that string waxed so its sticky to the touch. Good luck ! __________________ Swift, Silent, Deadly and HUMANE !!

Just keep the string and cables well waxed (wax everything, even the servings, except dont get it all caked into the cam tracks). They should feel tacky to the touch, but excess wax shouldnt build up on them. Once every 2 weeks is usually often enough.
Keep everything clean and dirt free. Dont use wd-40 type lubricants on any moving parts as it attracts and holds dust/dirt. Lube cams/axles/bushings periodically with specialty oils made for bows. Place a few drops of bow oil or lubricant on each side of the wheels and cams at the bushings, let it soak down into the axles at least every 4-5 weeks. Be careful not to get any on the string or cables. Check your manufacturers recomendations before lubing. Cams such as the HOYT Cam.5 are sealed bearings, and lubrication is not necessary. Check for loose screws and bolts and retighten any found loose. Placing wax or removeable thread lock on screws is a good idea. Its really straight forward. Good luck this season.---Matt __________________ "Only in dictionaries does SUCCESS come before WORK." -Alfred K. Henderson

I wax my string about 4 times a year. I haven't cleaned or oiled anything else on this Mathews Q2XL since I got it in Aug of 2000. I guess I need to look into this. Hell I justed changed the string this year after 6 seasons.
I guess it's like buying a Toyota or a Ford. You never have to do anything to the Toyota but the Ford is always getting maintenance ![]() __________________ Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.
