30. Mr. Chaivetz ________

Congratulations! Assumpink Hunter made it! A heartfelt thanks to EVERYONE that scrimped and saved, broke the piggy-bank, or tapped their inheritence to reach Assumpink Hunter's "30 something" goal!!

I am an optimist at heart. I'd like to leave the #30 spot for Mr. Chaifetz's contribution. I sincerely feel that in his deepest desires he craves a burger with the works. You know, even Ms. Smith of BEAR used to say she was a vegetarian - but then wrote freely in her blog that she enjoyed eating a burger and fries.

So perhaps it is that way for Mr. Chaifetz too. Just in case, we'll leave the #30 slot open for him to "pony up."

Congratulations to all and a special thanks to a great group of people.

Now, someone start another "30 something" thread

That's what the anti's are hoping we think that way.
For those who say "It'll never happen" You might as well join PETA & HSUS now to avoid the rush.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Remember - We need 2 things to win an election.

1. VOTES - you must register to vote. You must contact your district representatives and ask how they will vote on A-3275 and S-2041. You want it in WRITING. You also want in WRITING that they will NOT trade their vote.

2. Money - it is unfortunate that money is involved but money helps those who are running to get theoir message out to the public. The source of money comes from PACs like NJOA. So your donations are important. No one takes a salary, or has expenses reimbursed at NJOA. All money goes toward advancing our mission.

PS - I too am a bit surprised at the low level of response from the 2000 members on this forum. I realize that we all have budget constraints, mouths to feed, mortgage payments. etc. But I would think that more than 30 people (out of +2000 people) would be able to make a $25.00 donation.

I sincerely hope that the other 1970 people understand the very real threat to hunting, fishing, and trapping. The antis and their legislative supporters are behind these bills and they can barely contain their enthusiasm with their new found power base. They are lying low and working very hard behind the scenes - until after the November election. If they maintain/gain power they will no longer be silent. They will be "in our face" and gloating.

They will know that they have prevented future generations from hunting, fishing, and trapping. They know that they have banned goose liver in NJ. They know that they have banned transfats.

What will be next?

Think this stuff isn't serious...

...well Mr. Stuart Chaifetz disagrees. This animal rights activist, and his puppets Assemblyman Panter and Senator Karcher, are very serious about taking fishing, hunting, and trapping away from us. (See Op Ed below)

FIND OUT WHO YOU DISTRICT ASSEMBLYPERSONS AND SEANTOR ARE - ASK HOW THEY WILL VOTE ON BILLS A3275 OR S2041. THEN VOTE FOR THEM - OR VOTE AGAINST THEM.

. . . Bill would reform council to remove conflicts of interest
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 09/13/07
BY STUART CHAIFETZ

Hunters from across New Jersey are descending upon Monmouth County in the hope of defeating Assemblyman Mike Panter and state Sen. Ellen Karcher in the election this November. Why are they doing this? Because Panter and Karcher proposed an ethics reform bill to democratize, modernize and remove the corrupting influence of profit from the hunter-dominated New Jersey Fish and Game Council, the state body that has power over our wildlife.

This critical legislation expands the duties of the council to include "investigating the use of nonlethal alternatives for dealing with wildlife conflicts, exploring eco-tourism opportunities to promote the state's diverse wildlife and pursuing opportunities to preserve land for wildlife habitat." Aren't these worthy goals?

The bill also would require that no member of the council have a direct personal financial interest in the wildlife they manage. This is ethics reform, pure and simple, yet hunters are so outraged at this that they have formed a political action committee and are raising thousands of dollars to defeat Panter and Karcher and to keep their "good ol' boy network" intact.

Sadly, their Republican opponents, Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck, who is running against Karcher for Senate, and Assembly candidates DeclanO'Scanlon and Caroline Casagrande, seeing an opportunity to raise funds for their campaign, have promised to fight this reform movement. They have told the hunters they are "on their side." They even have written privately to hunters and to hunting groups promising to oppose the council reform bill. "Rest assured," Beck wrote, "that when this bill comes before me . . . I will vote a resounding "no.' "

"No" to saving wildlife habitat? "No" to nonlethal alternatives? And a "resounding no" to ethics reform? Are these candidates so desperate for cash that they would promise to protect corruption and continue policies that are destroying wildlife and our environment?

The Fish and Game Council had made it clear that, not only do they desire yearly bear hunts, but they want bowhunters to be able to slaughter bears as well. Can you imagine anything more cruel or barbaric than bears bleeding to death from arrow wounds while a hunter smiles at his work? Yet, by giving their full support and protection to the Fish and Game Council, Beck, O'Scanlon and Casagrande are stating this is what they would allow to happen, and all to ensure the cash flow.

Karcher, Panter and their Assembly running mate, Amy Mallet, have won the endorsements of environmental and animal protection organizations because they have pledged to make our state a better place for all of us and the wildlife that fall under our stewardship. I am proud to add my organization's name to this list. And, unlike the hunter PAC, which seeks only self gain and retention of power, we gain nothing from this legislation, save the knowledge that our state is better prepared to manage wildlife in the 21st century. Our only goal is to make New Jersey just a little more charitable to animals.

Stuart Chaifetz, Cherry Hill, is director of the Animal Protection Political Action Committee, Manalapan.
