Can someone clarify this?
On the NJ Fish & Wildlife site Spruce Run is listed as a public deer hunting area in Zone 7.

However on the NJ Parks and Forestry site it is listed as "waterfowl only"

Anyone????

You can not deer hunt within the park confinds which are on the left side of Van Syckels Rd coming in from highway 31 only on the right side which is Clinton WMA

I thought it was all WMA...I have hunted pheasants on both sides of Van Sickle road, however not for about 10 years.

Unless they just changed it that is not so. You can hunt during a special archery season in Spruce Run, it has special regulations including time constraints though. Call the park for more info, you also have to get a free permit.

This should be the story but those who may want to hunt here (And it is GOOD HUNTING IN THERE) may need to go to the park office in person and fill out an application.

PLEASE POST HERE IF THIS HAS CHANGED as it took some doing to get this opend to bowhunters and huntable) and if a WEASEL MOVE by the park manager has been pulled again it needs to be addressed ASAP also feel free to email me if there is a problem I will be seeing one of the people who can and will address any problems on Sunday.

Spruce Run offers a variety of waterfowl, which may be hunted on a seasonal basis. The Clinton Wildlife Management Area is adjacent to the recreation area and is open for public hunting. Maps and information may be obtained from Division of Fish and Wildlife by calling (908) 735-8240.

This was copied out of the web site for the state park I do not see where it says deer hunting is allowed on park property. Sure you are not thinking of round valley? I will be in law tomorrow and I will ask about the regs if there is any.

I know thats what I saw too Stash, but this is right off NJ Fish & Wildlife, if you look at "Public Deer Hunting Lands"

7 Clinton WMA, Hunterdon Co. Park System* - Union Forge and Tower Hill Reserves, Musconetcong River WMA, Spruce Run Recreation Area

Seems to be a conflict and the old left hand isn't talking to the right hand, somewhere.

Better yet since you will be so close stop in at the park office (In to the front gate than down a bit and another right to the offices down there and inquire about it Jose Fernandez directed them last year to not only open more of it up but to make the time periods more workable if they are disobaying it needs to be addressed.
Some of our parks are run like little fifedoms for the insiders let the public be damned.
Also drive down to the Boat launch and see if there are any posters pertaining to regulated bowhunting for deer only up. THANKS FOR CHECKING.

And for the record I would also support a cold weather gunhunt in there provided it was early AM from elevated stands they could do it but do not want to.

I stand corrected here is the reg

Spruce Run Recreation Area:
Designated portions of the area will be open to deer hunting weekdays
during the Fall Bow and Permit Bow seasons. (Deer Management Zone 7 regulations
apply). The area is closed to deer hunting at all other times. Hunters
must park at the boat launch parking lot. Call (908) 638-8572 for further
information.

No biggie but it took some work to get huntable changes made in there and I for one would HATE to see them roll backward THAN we would see a BP spike in me for sure but I seldom stay angry as I get to work fast making things right again.

Jakesbeard who do you know??

In Kittatiny SP, the entire middle section of the park (about 600 acres) is closed to all hunting. I see no reason for that when the remaining sections of the park are open.

Likewise, the back side of allamuchy SP is actually Steven's state park and is also closed to hunting-no reason for that at all

If you know someone, maybe we can work on getting these areas opened to bowhunting

MTH,
Those places have been discussed and some things are less cut and dried than others (I think a deal with a local farmer mucks the Alamuchy thing up).

As for who I know I prefer to keep that basicaly to myself especialy as far as the net goes.

More later.
