i just got my FID card last month. It took just what the women at the police station said 2 months exact. It was way easier then i thought. Now i want to get my pistol permit. Whats the steps in getting this. How long tdoes it take etc.. My next question is when you do get it is it only good for 1 hand gun and how long before it expires? Thanks alot

You should have done it the same time as your FPID. Expect to wait about the same amount of time as your FPID.
It's good for only 1 handgun but you can apply for as many as you want for a fee of $2.00 each. They are good for only 90 days. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. | I have a freind who just applied for a pistol permit . And guess what the state of new jersey did . They made a whole new process up. Where you will have to list all the police depts in each town you ever lived in since birth . And he was told it can take up to 7 months to get. You gotta love this state . | ||

Clearly your friend was misinformed. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. As Bloodtrails said, you should have applied for Hangun Purchase Permits when you applied for your FPIC .... its the same form. I did.
And, you can take your Handgun Permit down to the issueing police department, and they can give you a 90 day extension if your permit is about to expire. |

| In my town, (West Windsor) you have to apply for an FID and be granted the FID before you can apply for a pistol permit - or so the letter from the Police Chief says. | ||

While I don't doubt that they are requiring you to do this, it is TOTALLY WRONG. NJ Law does not require you to have an NJFID card to get a pistol permit, nor do you need it for anything related to handguns. IF, you are applying for a Pistol Purchase Permit I will sometimes tell people that they might as well get the card as it does make it another form of govt ID and you can present it when buying ammo even though you don't need it. If they don't want to, that's OK too. __________________ "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work"
