Anyone recently get their FID in Paterson? If so how long did it take?

I'm just curious if anyone else is taking as long as mine in Paterson. It's almost been 5 months and I'm wondering if I should go and ask. Although the detective did say that he would delay me if I did.

Check with your references to see when and if they replied. Maybe, something was delayed on that end. Then, I would ask, but make sure you're polite.

Why do people put up with this?  5 months?  Did he actually say that he would delay it if you called?  If he did get a lawyer and sue the crap out of the town.

At the very least call for the status.  If you don't like their answer (providing it isn't any fault of your own or your references) shedule a meeting with the Chief.  Don't put up with this.  You are doing  a disservice to all gun owners by letting this happen.  STAND!!

I don't think he said that to you, but if he did then he is 100% wrong........Of course you should ask, by either calling or going there

I got one in Paterson back in the '80's. It didn't take terribly long back then. Perhaps it helped thatI went to high school the officer that fingerprinted me .

Actually it used to be impossible to get one there before the 1980's. Thay had a catch 22. They required that you bring your references there 'in person' during business hours. Who can get two people to take off from work for something like that?

They also had an "Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party" question which is un-constitutional.

Here's an update:

I went over to his office. Apparently all that he was waiting for to come back to him was done. He told me that he had to do his "in house" part now. He said he would call my  references that day but he did not. It's been a few days now, still waiting. If I were to talk to the Chief do you think that would help or make things worse?

Why would he call your references?  Didn't they get letters?  It's been more than 5 months and he didn't check references yet?  He's playing you.  Call the Chief.

He initially gave me the letters, made me make them sign it and bring it back to him.

So on top of delaying your rights he's making you do his work...

Another update:

Lol as I was posting this, he just called my references. Apparently he was very brief asking if they signed the document. Hope I get it this week.
