I just picked up 2 Moultrie Game Spy D40 cameras.Any suggestions on how to deter theft.I didn't say eliminate b/c if someone wants something bad enough they'll usually find a way to take it.
Any suggestions that work well for this type of Cam? I saw somewhere here I believe that some had fabricated a type of lockable bracket type of mount.Anyone selling any of these or could recomend a place to get a similar product? |

Dig a trench around the tree you are going to place the camera about three feet away and about two feet deep.
Place about 100 Punji sticks (sticks with a sharp needle end) coated with human excrement (caca). Make sure you let them dry in the sun before sticking them into the ground. Cover the trench with thin sticks from the sorrounding area. Now this is the tricky part. Make sure you use the same vegetation that is found around the area. If you can dig up the grass with the soil on it (like sod) and place gently on top of the sticks. Now you have a perfect set up for the individual that is going to borrow your camera so he can take his own pictures. The only different would be, that he has to wait till next year because this year he is going to have a nasty infection with possible amputation. Good Luck if you need any more ideas I can give you a few more. __________________ "Dont complain about your problems. There is always someone worst off then you."

I lost two, and had two of those cable locks like the one beef posted cut in the process. Also lost two stands...man, it's great to have nice little private land all to yourself, right?
I haven't put any out down there this year Ken. Have only been there a couple times since I found those rifle shells, deer seem spooky enough, so I haven't been bothering them. When we get a nice hard rain, I'll probably go hang a few stands. |

A fast trigger speed and no flash is your best deterrent...They can't steal what they don't see.
A fast trigger speed allows you to set up your camera at a right angle to a trail and brush in the sides, or set it back between some heavy cover. Anyone walking the trail will have to look directly to the side to see it. I sometimes set the cameras to fire during day time only and turn off the flash, or I use IR cameras. I am gonna start putting my cams up in trees with my climber. I have a lone wolf climber and it is easy to pack and light wieght so it is no big deal to set the cam or to check it. I have also thought about putting a sticker in my cameras that say " If you are reading this, Your picture has already been taken by two other cameras!" I would also have an old trail cam that I don't use anymore up in a tree and pointing at the 'real ' camera. Let them see one of the 'security' cameras to varify the sticker. But they won't be able to find the second one. That should make them have second thoughts about stealing the Real camera. __________________ <- <- <- <- ~ <- <- <- <-

So far this has been working, but for how long is anyone’s guess The camera is bolted to the tree from inside and long screws hold it in position in the fore corners and of corse a big chain & lock.

I just cross my fingers.... and place in a non-obvious spot... and zero piles of corn. Sprinkle bird seed works fine. __________________ |

ALWAYS LOCK IT ON A THICK TREE. Thin ones can be bent and broken or easily chopped with a good buck knife in a matter of minutes. __________________ Swift, Silent, Deadly and HUMANE !!

I saw some on Ebay for the D40. However, they were about $40, half the price of the D40. I am having the same problem now. The filmsy plastic hole where you can lock it broke on mine. I was thinking I just running some screws through the back and hoping for the best. __________________ Git R Done!

on my expensive camera i am able to remove the camera... it has foam behind it where it sits into place.. i took the camera out, ripped out the foam, and when i go to the tree i send a lag bolt through it into th tree with a ratchet... then i put the foam back in and the camera over that and close the case and lock with a masterlock that can't be cut wiht bolt cutters... (no access to the shank)
if you cant cut the lock then you cant open the case which means you cant take the LAG BOLT out which means you must BREAK it to get it off the tree... __________________ Jersey Jays Taxidermy

bottom line is if they can't steal it then they are gonna just smash it to pieces to get your card out. this happened to 2 of my buddies # 300 cameras. i guess the tresspasser was scared . since we lost a feeder and two stands before that happened. __________________ ProStaffer Just because i said so....Stupid....I use to many items to list them all..Just ask me about them i am an Expert.. As much of a pain it is i take my climber and set mine up about 12feet pointing at the bait or trail .You also get alot less of the saucer eyes from the flash.and its more likely to get overlooked at 12feet then 3feet .Its a shame ya need to go to extremes because someone cant keep there hands to them selves.

| I hunt in juenile delinquent territory. Anything with a chain or cable is just tempting them since they come prepared to destroy or steal everything. I've found the best way is to camo your camera. If they don't ever see it they won't try to take/destroy it. I camo mine with paint and leafy twigs and set it down low enough that the leaves and twigs I put on it look natural. Just run a few leafy twigs through whatever cable or chain you use so they point up, down, and across if necessary to hide it. If you have camo painted it you don't need to use so much leafy stuff that it looks like a squirrel's nest out of place. Keep the leaves in the front close to the camera and wind won't blow them in front of the lens. I like to put it near low holly because that has green all year and the leafy twigs stay fresh-looking for a longer time than other kinds. Cover it except for the lens opening and you are set. If it uses a flash you have to only take daytime pics because a flash is visible from very far away in the dark. | ||
