Seems that simply the presence of wolves is allowing aspen trees to regenerate.  The wolves take about 300 elk every winter, which shouldn't reduce the 8,500 population alone.  Regeneration of the aspens should improve food availability and increase elk numbers long term.

With all due respect to you and the wolves (and even more to the ELk)I want to hear something from sources OTHER than the NYT.
Example would you side with them if it were a story about gun ownership?
Would anything conected to hunting and wildlife management be differant comming out of LEFT feild?

I saw an hour long show about this same thing on National Geographic a few months ago.  The way they put it together with history, timelines, and actual evidence, it seemed like a viable theory.

I think all media is basically moronic.  Lets face it, Journalism was not a major that the best and brightest were taking in college.  Therefore, you have to bring your own critical cynicism to everything you read and hear.

It has been awhile since I read that article and posted the link.  But I do believe it was in the Science section, not the political opinion page.  Further, the article dealt with Aspen tree regeneration.  I doubt the biologists who are worried about forest regeneration would be anti-hunting.
