will everyone just relax a second...
Yeah Dave in a perfect world it would be 30 days, but we do not live in a perfect world, hell this is Jersey its the farthest from perfect that u can find When i applied for my handgun permit i waited and waited, and waited,, then one day i went to the police dept. to ask what the delay was ( i was nice and polite and didnt make demands) they explained that all was ok except one of my references hadnt responded, I called him right there and he explained that he had sent it, so i figured the hell with it, I asked the desk clerk there what could i do and she said technicaly there was nothing they could do other than resend another questionaire to my reference, but instead she handed it to me and told me to take it and get it done,, i took it to my friends had him fill it out right there and brought it back,, permit was in my hands a week later and gun was in my hands 3 days after that so when there are delays, first try to find out the reason before u go nuts __________________ Git-R-Done

They should call you. Without a doubt. My Secretary BETTER call you the day I sign the card or permit. A funny aside: Had a guy a couple years ago call and yell at my Sec. Up and down he's been waiting for 3 months for his pistol permit and he's pissed yada yada yada. So I call him and tried to talk to him. He yelled at me. I mean up and down, not nice words etc. Well I don't take that from anyone except my Mother and Father and they're both dead. I tell him to call back when he is reasonable and I hang up. I then go right down and check the file with the Sec. Three, 3, yup, 3 messages left at his residence (actually he lives w/his brother, he can't afford a house in our township ).
He calls back about an hour later (I was hoping he would come to hdqts ) and wants to "talk".
I advise him of what I learned. The permits were approved in 2 weeks as he had gotten permits in the past. The messages were left at the residence. He said he would call back. He apparently checked with his brother who confirmed that he had forgotten to give him the messages, all 3 of them.
Now the best part is when he called back. I got to tell him that the permits had EXPIRED. He would have to come in and reapply. I loved it. __________________ "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work"

so when there are delays, first try to find out the reason before u go nuts I did. I kindly asked the lady what was the issue, if any, and her response was that the computer system they needed was not working properly. It took over 2 months for it to get fixed. That's just idiotic. I agree 100%. It is not needed. Think about all the time spent by police departments and the state police on FID cards and pistol permits. I bet just going to instant check like most states would save you guys alot of time. Wich in return saves alot of $$$$ __________________ "from my cold dead hands"

I don't understand why our background checks have to go through NJSP.
Does the $15 add up to any substantial money? I doubt it. Maybe the union and our corrupt politicians came up with a couple new "job titles" and added people to the state gravy wagon? (Its been a long time since I did this, so I hope my memory is straight on this)When I was denied my firearms id card many years ago, I did a little homework. I found out that my minor offenses would not prevent me from buying a gun under federal guidelines. Further, I found out that each state can make it tougher to get appoved for a gun, but it still goes through the national system only, not any individual state police. For example, Pennsylvania is a little tougher than federal guidelines (domestic violence situations ??) but the background check is still done through the national system only, not Harrisburg.

if your a offcier in nj do you have to still apply for a FID card or do you do all that in the academy? Yup. You still must apply through the town that you live in. The PD where you are employeed will issue you your firearm. You don't buy it. Your NJ FPID allows you to purchase a firearm for yourself. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil.
