Zone 51 deer count is still strong. How did you find this site & how long have you been hunting?

That depends on who you ask and what zone your asking about.
I see less deer than I did 10 years ago, but there still is a good herd.  IMO.
Many hunters remember the days when they saw 20+ deer every hunt. Those days are gone in alot of zones. But thats what the plan was to reduce the herd to managable levels.

What do you expect when hunters just kill a ton of does. I worked a check station in Jamesburg for a couple years and people were coming in 2 or 3 times on opening of doe day checking in deer and still; complaining about the lack of deer in there are. What do you expect if you shoot a doe you must assume that you are not killing one deer but you are taking 3 out of the heard for the coming year. We would have a group who come in from MAINE OF ALL PLACES TO HUNT IN THAT GREAT DEER STATE OF NEW JERSEYand take home there winter supply of venison don't forget you could shoot

The state will not admit it but deer heard numbers are way down. Maybe on private land the number od deer are good . But with the unlimmited on the public lands messed everthing up . It is not like it was 5-10 years ago .

ummm, NJ F&W does post estimated populations every year.  The numbers have been dropping over the last 10 years.  It's no secret.

Good.  100+ deer per square mile is NOT a good thing.

Plenty of deer just drive around but watch out you might hit one.

Who cares if numbers are down thats better.

around our area it depends on how close you can get to the backyards... no deer in the woods..  they are all under the swingsets..

Yup state wide were hunters are ALLOWED to get to em the numbers are down but that only means they are closer to what they should be.
There are still deer for anyone who wants to enjoy them weather that be to view them or eat them it just might take a bit of WORK (To some the most vile of 4 letter words).
I do not think there is ONE huntable DMZ that can be classed as being greatly below carrying capasity in this state.
In my home DMZ(10) I see less deer over all but I still see as many quality bucks as I did 20 years ago and perhaps more.

in my area there are tons of deer, in my hunting area I have 2 bucks to every 1 DOE. It's the neighborhood's going up that is moving the herd numbers of deer being seen.
