I have a 25-06 weatherby and I was going to take it varmint hunting but I guess they dont allow a rifle for anything at all here huh.  oh well back in the gun safe it goes! lol  So what would you recomend for hunting rabit and such.  I have a short/heavy barrel marlin .22 self loader..would that suffice or should I buy a shotgun?

Unless you have a rifle permit and even if you do, I don't think you can use it.  Safest bet is to buy a shotgun.

Shotgun! You can use .22 for disposing trapped animals in NJ and I thin maybe woodchuck but not sure.

As far as I know (i'm pretty sure on this)

The only time it is legal to use a .22 is when dispatching trapped animals with a rifle permit, as previously stated. However, you may use any rifle (centerfire included) to hunt woodchucks on PRIVATE land. No rifles on state land..

in other words, shotgun it is!
