I have a short/heavy barrel marlin .22 self loader..would that suffice or should I buy a shotgun? | ||

Unless you have a rifle permit and even if you do, I don't think you can use it. Safest bet is to buy a shotgun. __________________ It isn't the catch or the kill that makes for a great outdoor experience but enjoying all that God has created for us.

Shotgun! You can use .22 for disposing trapped animals in NJ and I thin maybe woodchuck but not sure. __________________ Member UBNJ

As far as I know (i'm pretty sure on this)
The only time it is legal to use a .22 is when dispatching trapped animals with a rifle permit, as previously stated. However, you may use any rifle (centerfire included) to hunt woodchucks on PRIVATE land. No rifles on state land.. in other words, shotgun it is!
