My Dad took this picture back in 2003 at one of our properties in Hopewell.  We let this young buck walk all season.  Each of us could have shot him 100 times but we hoped he would grow into a big narly non-typical.  We never saw him again after that season  Who knows what happened to him.  He was a 1.5 year old buck in this picture.  Imagine what this deer would have looked like at 3.5?

He would have been king of the woods in a few short years, You never know he may have turned nocturnal of got pushed out of the area. But reality is more then likely some shmuck shot him

Okay that is true, maybe I was off with that comment, and not everyone is willing to, or capable fo letting a particular deer grow up to reach maturity and it’s potential, a deer, is a deer, is a deer, especially here in New Jersey. I personally, like try to let deer with certain genetics grow up,especially if it live primarily on private lands but that is true not everyone hunts like that. My Bad

not everyone is a trophy hunter, besides maybe the person who shot it was a first time hunter and it was a trophy to him/her,,

we all have killed big deer and small young deer,

I agree as that is the same thing that ran thru my head when you called me on my post

I know if that buck stepted in front of Heather and I he would have been smoked with out even a second thought.

Me Myself would have let it go another year or two at least. but like I said any buck I can get a kid or new hunter on is a trophy for sure

I love all the guys on here that are so sure he would have been a beast. Screewed up genes like that probably would have kept that deer little his whole life.

I truly doubt that, most deer with the double throat patch generally have good genetics and odd racks like that are where the great nontypicals come from.

While there is no real way to prove it one way or the other, I can tell you this much that I have seen, most double patch bucks grow in to great bucks look on some walls at the double patch deer it's not hard to see they grow goog racks.

very cool rack, my girl shot one in 2005 looks something like that. she wanted to let him walk but i told her to shoot. got it on video with the bow. shes glad she did it now we would have never seen him again.

I let a bunch of deer walk this past season, most (bucks) went down the ridge and boom! no more buck. Thats the way it is in Jersey, if you let them walk the odds are againts them making it to next season.

to be 100% honest, i would have taken him if i seen him. that would've made a great wall hanger..

i like to shoot "special / different" bucks just as much as big bucks. as long as they are unique.

Think positively. As a 1 1/2 he may have dispersed off the property onto new ground and is now lurking as a 5 1/2 monster.

Anyone who knows me already knows that buck would have been blasted if he walked by me... In my eyes he's already a trophy...

I agree.  Dont get me wrong, there were a few times I came to full draw on this buck.  But in the end I just wanted to let him grow.  Might have been a dumb move....who knows.

Id be thrilled if that was the case

I obviously dont have proof that this buck was headed toward being a monster....but I gotta tell ya...I doubt he would have stayed small.

He was a relativly large bodied 1.5 year old who chased other bucks around many times that I saw him.  I think he was gonna be one hell of a buck.

Since you all own stock in photo shop I just wonder how many of you tapped into it on this deer? Maybe so of you should get a lie detector this year so when so play big dick tracy you can uncover what your jeolousy might run wilds with when you say OH I wouldn't have shot this deer and I'm just a trophy hunter? Every so called trophy hunter I'ved seen shoot small deer out of frustration at times while wanting meat eventually and being ridden.

Maybe we should go back to our old way of life and hang the bucks balls on our buddys door knob for the next morning for his luck to change with him from a dry spell. It works, secret indian trick.

This is a first I agree with what cat said From that little buck that shows up everyday to tease you when your freezer is low, to hanging the balls on your buddies door for luck

I would have taken him to get the genes out of the herd. In TX this guy would be taken on our lease in a second. Just depends if you are trying to manage a typical white-tail or not. He could have been a big non-typical.

We have guys we call Buck Master this or Buck master that. They say they are pure trophy hunters and they shoot does. Yep they do mis and wound big bucks each year but then they shoot little bucks to so now are they just a trophy hunter? Nope I say nope. If you are just a trophy hunter then you have to shoot no deer maybe and just a trophy? Only have big racks and I mean all record books and no BS, then I would call you for real. The lie detector test would be if you said you wouldn't shoot that deer when you would?

I know enough of guys on here tried to photo shop my deer last year and couldn't figure him out? Because? Nothing was tampered with!

See you don't know when I'm serious and when I'm not?

Oh or when I'm drinkin the Vino or into the pill bottle?
