I grew up with Garrett Mountain. When I was a teenager it was the place to go to make-out. In the 70's;80's and a little bit in the 90's I used to run there,skate there and bring my kids there. I saw some deer sign at Rifle Camp in the 80's. It wasn't until the 90's,once when I was running, that I actually saw a deer..a button buck. At first I freaked thinking it was a loose running German Shepard. Also in the late 90's there was a road kill 6-8 pointer just below the mountain on RT80. That is with in the Paterson city limits! About two or three years ago I happened to drive through on a Sunday afternoon in the winter. There was about 20-30 doe hanging on the side of the road..people were feering them bread. yeah, i used to be in and out of Garret Mountain traveling back and forth from the horse stables around in the park. They have quite a few deer in that place, but by the looks of some of the deer in that place it seems like there is (and i am sure of there being) quite a bit of inbreeding in there. i dont think the area has the potential of producing a trophy buck (due to so much inbreeding, i may be wrong tho), but if opened to hunting they deer population could definately be controlled in taht area, caus i do think the area is becoming overcrowded with deer, especially in some parts of the park.

I couldn't believe the other morning not just the big bucks I see all the time up there, but seeing 2 small bucks sparring, and 2 others making scrapes and licking branches
