NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Road Survey / Bad motorcycle accident on 80 east
Posted:  15 May 2007 8:40 PM
I just passed the aftermath of a nasty motorcycle accident on Rt 80 East by the Rockaway Mall exit! The cops were there but no EMT's yet.... The guy looked like a crumpled up rag doll... I'm guessing dead... My wife almost puked...

About 40 yards up the highway pass the body was the guy's white motorcycle stuck between the two back tires of a dump truck.... It was still standing upright wedged in between the tires and up under the back of the truck!!!!

Man you have to be careful out there!!!!

My wife is all light headed from seeing all this...

God Bless Him And His Family. This is the reason I sold my bike I was not worried about my riding ability but the ability of the other drivers out there. After having kids I don't want to take the chance of going out for a ride and never coming back to them. I love bikes and grew up riding but I have to put riding on the street away to eliminate my chances of having the worse happen.

For all you riders out there PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! and for you non riders please keep an eye out for the riders out there my Dad is one of them and I really don't want anything to him or anyone else.

RIDE SMART & ENJOY!!

2003 Honda CBR 954RR I loved this bike! This picture was taken the day I sold it.

Same here, I gave up riding (and a couple other things) when my first kid was born.

I have a dirt bike for the woods, but I miss cruising the country roads on the street bike. Plus, woods riding is really taking its toll on my body. lol

Two motorcyclists killed on Rt. 80 today
BY NICK LIOUDIS
DAILY RECORD
Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Two motorcyclists were killed in separate eastbound Route 80 accidents on Tuesday.

An unidentified man was killed Tuesday night in a Rockaway Township crash, according to State Police in Netcong.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m., and the identity of the driver was being withheld by authorities until relatives were notified.

About 16 hours earlier, a 55-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on a newly paved portion of the interstate in Knowlton, Warren County and was struck by another vehicle, New Jersey State Police said.

Steven Wallace of Tannersville, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 5:17 a.m. near milepost 6.3.

According to state police, Wallace was driving his 2004 Yamaha and attempted to change lanes from the left-center lane, which was newly milled as part of a resurfacing project, to the left lane, which is newly paved, when he lost control of his cycle and was thrown onto the highway.

He was struck by a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country driven by 62-year-old H.A. Williams of the Bronx, N.Y.

Both accidents remain under investigation.

That's terrible!! The poor families and the poor guy who hit the biker after he lost control, he will never forget this!!!  As an EMT I have seen the worst of what a bike can do and as much as I want one I am hesitant to say the least!!

That is terrible news. I do not ride on Rt. 80 at all. I live in Sussex County and there are some nice quiet roads to cruise around on. I have a series of different loops I do. Between 40 and 50 miles a ride.
But you need to ride smart at all times.

Prayers are with the families from these two trajedies.

That is terrible, I used to ride to work, had a close call and stopped. Have since sold bikes. My wife got rear ended by a sports car at a traffic light on her way to work once. We then sold that bike. NJ is too crowded for bike travel on comuter roads.

i left my bike home today because of the possible rain, and i needed my truck.  then i see this "biker" that i had not seen since last year.  same guy, same crotch rocket.  i know it's him by the way he rides.  we're heading east on route 10, i'm in my truck, and i see him.  what a dirt bag.  at each traffic light, he would pull over onto right shoulder and pass everyone on the right.  when the light changes green, he would take off like a nut back into the right lane so he would get ahead of everyone.  i'd see him flying down 10 weaving between cars, speeding like crazy.  the sad thing is with all his antics, he made little progress.  i had him in sight from roxbury to denville before i lost him.  i never wanted to see someone get popped by the cops so badly in my life.

if there are any roxbury, randolph, denville, or morris plains cops reading this and you want an easy ticket, just be on route 10 east the next nice day between 6:45 and 7:15 and you'll have this crackpot.

That can be a little bit of a spooky feeling .... changing between milled and unmilled lanes at highway speed on a bike.

i own a harley ,but never have laid it down . im really hate hearing this kind of stuff..my thought's go out to the family's.sorry about your losses

I was hit 14 years ago.  Honda CBR600 F2- Loved that bike ... Guy sitting at a stop sign pulled out right in front of me; I was going northbound.. he wanted to go southbound.. So he had to crossover my lane... the bike smashed into the side of his truck couple seconds later my body hit the side of his truck.  Good Lord what a morning!!  Luck was on my side; I am alive and kicking

I was afraid for a long time after that.  Didn't start riding again until last year.

I feel awful for their families.  My heart and prayers go out the them.

I've never rode a bike but I think you would have to be twice as careful as driving a car or truck.  People cant see you as easy and you have nothing around you for protection.  But still you see some bikers acting as quoted above.  I dont feel bad for those type of people if they get hurt.  Guess Im just a Jerk, but thats how I feel.

A few years back I was coming home from work on a busy summer friday night on the Blue Route in PA.  As usual, it was bumper to bumper slow traffic.  This idiot comes roaring up behind me, passed me IN BETWEEN me and a car, not a lane, in between us.  I said to myself, I hope that Arsehole wrecks.  That'll teach him a lesson.  Well, one mile later traffic was standstill in the two right lanes.  I was in the left lane and moving.  Low and behold I pass the same dude, sprawled out on the ground in the middle lane.  His bike was about 150 ft down the road in a ditch.   No Cops arrived yet.  I just kept driving.  Didnt feel the least bit bad for him.

Heard a story from a person that used to come into a Honda shop I worked at. He was traveling down to SeaSide on his CBR(honda sportbike), a deer popped out ahead of him. He was moving at well over 120mph(he claims) and could not make a move. He hit the deer broadside and cut the deer in half. his bike, totaled with bones stuck in it. He apparently broke most of the bones in his body and was in traction for awhile. had some NASTY scares from lascerations and road rash. Watch that high speed driving, esp in cars during the RUT !!

My prayers are with the families.  Sometimes I don't know why I still ride, you think you would learn after reading about all these.

My father never let me get one, although he had one. He always said anyone who rides will get into an accident. It's just a matter of when and how bad.
I don't even like riding behind someone on a bike. And if forced to I give them plenty of leeway.

May the good lord rest there souls

I wrecked/went down on 80 west bound back in the late 80's and pretty much stayed off the highways from that point on. finally stopped riding altogether a few short years later when the wife had a heart to heart with me and I could see how much it worried her. But I got to tell you guys now I've been working on her over the last few years cause I think me's gonna get back on a bike, I really wanting a tricked out HD Sporster, We’ll see how it goes so far she thinks I’m just joking with her, I’m NOT !
