A citizen applied to our PD for his FID Card and a Pistol Permit on 3/22/07.
I signed off on both today. It would have been under 30 days had his FIRST REFERENCE completed and returned the paperwork. But NOOOOOOO, we had to chase it down and the applicant had to resubmit another reference. This meant the paperwork had to be mailed out again. I suppose some people on here will complain and blame the PD for not approving it within 30 days (which is not mandatory if the invest is not done) but this one is clearly on the applicant and his choice. This happens a LOT with these applications. I think we did a good job and got it done in a timely manner. __________________ "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work"

My FID submission process took no time at all. Both my references returned the paperwork right away and my local PD (Washington Twp. - Morris County) was very efficient. I thought I was getting the "run around" for a minute because the detective called saying, "your ID is ready" but when I showed up they could not locate it. Went back the next day (when the officer who finger printed me was in the office) and was able to pick it up immediately. I think these guys who have "horror" stories are having problems because their references did not submit the required paperwork. __________________ Dog's on point... get ready!!!

just a quick question:
i know you must be 21 to buy a handgun once you have the permit but do you have to be 21 just to bring one to the range and shoot?? __________________ "The man who does not like to see, hunt, photograph, or otherwise outwit birds or animals is hardly normal. In addition to that I had to go through an interview with an officer who treated my like a skel. This was with a high ranking member of the fire department as a reference. They didn't explain the delay, but it could be attributed to the previuous town's PD not sending the records in a timley fashion. When I finaly got the card it had a typo on the card number. They at least fixed that in a timely fashion. Supposedly the typo was on the old card. I am planning on moving soon. I wish I could afford to move where you work. When I decide where I am moving to I am going to check on this site if anyone has FID experience in that town. __________________ Gun control is being able to hit your target

Way to go TJC. I'm well known in MLPD and it still took 7-months. they kept loosing the references "3-times". ![]() __________________ Hunt with what you want and do it well...

I think we did a good job and got it done in a timely manner. You did. It just goes to show it can be done in the 30 day period IF paperwork and references are completed by the applicant. PLUS, PD's like your's that process the application in a timely manner. It's a shame that your PD seems to be the exception to the rule. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. i don't know tom, if this was november, i could see that applicant having to wait intil february if YOU had to sign off.
your debate would be, "should i go to work and sign things, OR, should i go pheasant hunting. decisions. decisions..."! ![]() ![]() __________________ Chicken Parmigiana Pro Staffer

I believe most towns do it in a timely fashion.
But eveyone has heard horror stories of towns( Usually Cities) taking months and months. __________________ >>>---> Shut Up And Hunt >>>--->

Are you kidding me? My Secretary is on my cell phone, home phone, car radio and I think smoke signals to find me when there are things to sign.
She makes sure she gets everything together, PO's, permits, handicap parking permits, FIDs and what ever else has to be signed and then calls at LEAST once a week.
But she does know I won't be there until after noon and my 2 pheasant limit is filled. ![]() __________________ "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work"
