Morris Twp. residents surprised by plan to cull deer
Some say killing taking place 'too close to home' BY ROB SEMAN DAILY RECORD MORRIS TWP. -- An effort to reduce the deer population in the township has caused a stir among some residents, who claim they were not informed that hunters would be using bows and arrows near their homes. Township Administrator Fred Rossi said Monday that he received some complaints from residents of Fanok Road and Hillview Terrace, after the township began the deer culling program about a week ago. The neighborhood is near the site where the program began, the woods along Loantaka Brook. http://www.dailyrecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050920/NE ... __________________ ............................................

| Wow, what a suprise. Everyone's ok with things like this happening everywhere else, but not near their area. With the hunters being screened by police it's not like it's open season anyway. I'm sure the safety precautions being taken are extremely strict. Maybe people should actually pay attention to things happening in their towns and not just plead ignorance when something like this happens. | ||

This all happened after oges77 heart shot a doe that found her way into someones backyard on the 10th.There is no process for getting a permit in the town other than being a friend of township officer Steve Somers. If you know him your in.If not good luck!It should be called the Steve Somers hunting club.A permit not only entitles you to hunt township property but you also get free corn and free butchering paid for by the town,if your a friend of Steves.

Yes Gspotter is right..You can thank Oges77 for all the spotlight that has been brought about as of late..These people with no hobbies have nothing better to do then pick on hunters..I think the town should send all these angry homeowners a copy of Monster Bucks or something..Maybe that will help them change there mind..

Instead of hiring professional hunters to use shotguns and rifles to kill the deer, the township has elected to allow volunteer professional hunters who are screened by police to kill the deer with bows and arrows. I dont know about you guys, but I sure would rather have people shooting shotguns and rifles in my backyard than bows. WHAT the heck are these people thinking?!

Are you saying a bow is less lethal, or more dangerous to bystanders? I dont get it. ![]() __________________ "Only in dictionaries does SUCCESS come before WORK." -Alfred K. Henderson

This whole thing is a joke! I bulls eyed a doe on opening morning and it died 20 yards off of some idiots back yard. He saw me drag it away and called the police and the police told him I was 100% legal and nothing I did was wrong. This idiot with nothing better to do contacted all of his neighbors and started this huge mess. Just another uneducated retard!

Dont worry about it Oges. At least you put it in the pumphouse, and she wasnt running around wounded. That would have caused a MUCH bigger mess.
Good shooting! ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ "Only in dictionaries does SUCCESS come before WORK." -Alfred K. Henderson

Matty, sorry about the confusion. Sarcasm is difficult to comprehend on the internet.
What I meant was, WHY would these people be complaining that they were bowhunting? Its much more dangerous (and louder) to have people using shotguns/rifles near their homes than bows. |

| It's a typical knee-jerk reaction to something they know nothing about due to their own ignorance. Granted, the township should have educated the homeowners in the techniques being used, but these people should have paid attention to the town newsletter. Maybe they explained it in there. | ||

| Everything was explained in the newsletter, and there are deer cull signs posted on the trees. These people are a bunch of rich, stay at home animal lover moms with nothing better to do with their time. The other night there was a meeting at one of their houses and they were educated on what was going on by a police officer. Everyone aggreed except for a few animal lovers. Now I can't go back to that spot for a while if not forever. Let one of those idiots hit a deer with one of their kids in the car and I'll bet ya they will change their minds. | ||

Everyone aggreed except for a few animal lovers. Actually, those folks are not at all animal lovers. Most of us on this board and most other hunters are however. We love whitetails and other Wildlife, heck we just simply love nature and play our role in it. That is why we hunt whitetails, observe them, think about them and spend countless hours a day dreaming about them. Any chance we get, on or off-season, we go in the woods or the forest and feel rejuvinated. These folks miss out because they don't know what it truly means to be with nature and that feeling you get when YOU are part of nature. They think they love animals, but in reality they know NOTHING about them and love them just for the cute factor as they would a stuffed animal. That is the ONLY reason why these people give a damn about a whitetail, because they perceive them as being cute. If a whitetail looked like an alley rat and it was exterminated to extinction they wouldn't give a rats ass. I once heard from a comedian a great anaology regarding this issue. He spoke about how people get all bent out of shape when dolphins get caught in tuna nets and die. Well,he said, what about the friggin Tuna! No one cares cuz it ain't cute and that's the bottom line...pathetic really |
