I know we'll disagree, but this is BAD advice. The last thing you want to do it become annoying to the issuing agency We will disagree on this because all agencies should be like your's. Make the best effort and everything will come back in a timely fashion (baring incomplete paperwork or sluggish references). If the PD is dragging their feet they need to be alerted that they are stepping on people's rights. If they further delay the process purposely out of spite because a law obiding citizen is checking up then they should be prosecuted. Someone posted not long ago (unverified) that the Patterson PD told them that if they called it would take longer. If true that person should be fired immediately. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. Quote: Years ago, we had a guy in our duck hunting group and his local township, I can't remember the name, added a form, too ...... who ever he lived with (wife or parents) had to sign off stating that they had no problem with him getting firearms.
Quote: So you are saying that your town's own policies are setup to purposely break state law Why not Mt Olive does. They have there own form they add to the state form. It asks you what kind of gun you are buying and what you are going to do with it. Guy from State police said it was illegal form. He also said they weren't going to do anything about it... I actually saw the form. |

BTW, my town .... Rockaway Township ... comes right out and states it will take about 2 months. They attach a cover sheet with instructions to the application forms, and it states it.
If some towns to get it done in 30 days, I don't know why our PD says 60 days. Maybe they are just giving a conservative time frame estimate to the applicant. Though, if I remember right, my handgun permits did take just about exactly 60 days. |

I don't totally disagree with this, I'm just telling you that calling and annoying them is NOT the way to expedite things and you'll never prove any wrong doings. For what its worth, when I applied I got a letter from the Chief of Police stating that it would take 8 to 12 weeks to process my application.
Since the police station in my town is next to the Post Office, I would check with the police station in person about once every week or so. It probably neither hurt nor helped. It took almost exactly 12 weeks after I got my revised application in - the revison was necessary because the mayor was one of my references and according to my town's rules he could not be a reference. |

Hello, I am new to his site. I was reading all of this about an FID. I got mine in NJ when I was younger. I recently moved to PA. Here I can purchase with DL. Is my NJ FID void, or can I get a change of address? Should even bother? __________________ "Without either the first or second amendment, we would have no liberty; the first allows us to find out what's happening, the second allows us to do something about it! Non-residents can get them but there is no reason to unless you want to buy a gun in NJ. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil. I wouldn't throw your FID out, as it is easier (slightly) to get a change of address, slightly, than a whole new one. |
