3/11/07 J & G Preserve in Hackettstown, NJ

http://www.jgpreserve.com/

Myself, MikeP, and Frankie (one of the best bird dogs ever) hit J & G Preserve early this morning.  It was a beautiful morning.  We had geese flying over us... and saw some turkey in a field.  Oh yeah... Frankie also found some birds for us.

MikeP - 1 cockbird, 1 chukar

Dragthor - 2 chukars, 1 missed chukar (he was going 100 miles an hour... LOL)

Frankie - 1 hen, 2 chukars... he ran them down while they were in the air...and jumped up and snagged them (sticker bushes did not slow him down either... LOL)

We also put up another cockbird... but he flew way too low to shoot... Frankie was on his tail.

I wonder why Scrubby & wingshooter do not eat chukar?  They taste fine to me.

Almost better?? I think it is better.  I really need to head over there to try this place.  I know they have some good birds, because I have bought birds from J & G.

I also agree with BHC.

mpemt24 - I think George (the owner) is low on pheasants this time of year for some reason.  However, on my way out I noticed plenty of chukars.

I called prior to the end of the regular season and they didn't have any available birds for non-club members.

Drag, is he adjusting his rates if there are no pheasants?

Nice shooting Dragthor. We hunted some of George's chuckars at the club today and they were flying better than the pheasants.

I think the pheasant are starting to molt, so they are not flying as well.

He's out of pheasants for this year so he's getting them for somewhere else, that's why they aren't flying as well as they normally do. Although, we did watch another guy miss one and that bird must've flown 200' high and gone about 1/2 mile.

It was in the wide open and broadside.

Lots of cover down there, even this time of year.  There are still places you can't get through.

Hey Drag... figured I'd hijack your post with some Pheasant pics of my own. We downed 17 Pheasant and 19 Chuckars yesterday morning. These are the Pheasant I took home.
