I took my pup out for a walk today in greenwood and seen 10 deer in one of the fields. No bucks that I could see unless they already droped their horns. They must know when deer season is over because I never see them out in the fields in broad daylight during the season, as soon as its over for about 2 months they are back out there just about every day before dusk.

they definitly know its over. theres a law/season dates book stashed in a hollow log some place and all the deer look at it at night(under the covers with the flashlite.)  yes, they know.

They know there safe but the turkeys are getting nervous. Anywhere there is food the munchers will hang out. Always nice to see the local herd

rt. 287 & rt. 78 is a far cry from zone 21, its a different world up there, a lot more deer then the pine barrens.

Since the season ended I have seen a lot of deer.  Funny how that happens   I've seen them in Wharton (in Zone 19 and 21) and some Atlantic county WMAs.  Just yesterday, in broad daylight, I saw 8 does (or does and sheds) feeding at the corner of 206 and Forked Neck Rd.

The mild temps in Dec. and Jan. is probably going to lead to good winter survival.

they are still herded up from winter conditions. thats why you see a bunch at a time or dont see them at all. they will be breaking up soon in april as the does will give birth from then into may. i was out all day saturday and didnt see one. no tracks no sign. the state was also out burning off the brush and fields in zone 21. that is great news for the deer in a month when all that green shoots up.

went for a walk today and found herds of about no more than 8-10. this is down from previous years when i sneak into the burned off fields that are now green with fresh growth. i did also see a coyote down the road from one group of deer. i think they need to open the season longer. also on my salt lick was several piles of coyote poop.
