Any have issues with stealing?  I hunt close to White Oak and got a treestand and a barrel of corn stolen this year.  If I find the stand (fat chance) I am going to cut the tree down!  The barrel of corn was full too!  Shot a nice eight out of it atleast.

the only thing that sucks is that if its brand new or a piece of crap its yours, and it sucks that people disrespect other peoples property.

Myself ,my father, and 3 friend had stands stolen and vandalized in the same area of Winslow WMA[zone 65] this past year.We have good reason to suspect the locals that ride ATV's and horses through the WMA during hunting season are the culprits[because they hassle the hunters who scout in the offseason and a bunch of us had words with several of them on different occasions].These people act like they have exclusive rights to the WMA because the live on the bordering street ,yet they produce no riding permits for the horses [required by law]and ATV's are alltogether illegal.Even though the local gamewarden is working closely with us on the matter ,it is a tireless and never ending battle. I hope whoever the thieving bastards are fall and break their necks and die !!!!

Pull a trick on the treestand thiefs.

Load up the stand with auto grease all over the stand. Let them get a hand full of grease when they try stealing it

I had a nice one robbed in Zone 4 too. I saw 5 stands in Zone 4 the last day of smokepole season this year. I couldn't believe that many were out there. Hopefully people are changing their thoughts about respecting other people's property.

Well I don't know about the rest of you guys/gals but, when I go in the woods 99% of the time I'm wearing gloves to either avoid poison ivy, hide hand movement or to keep them warm. But grease is great for putting on fences to keep  the neighbors kids from climbing it.

Thieves stink!  I always suggest to other hunters that they should haul their stands in during the morning and out at the end of a hunt.  We pay a lot of $$$ for good stands and I want mine to last 20+ years!  Even on private property that I hunt I still take my stand home with me at the end of every day even though I might hunt 2-3 days in a row.

I hate people who steal. I have had about 8 treestands stolen over the past 12 - 14 years and it sucks.

Having tree stands stolen seems to be very common in New Jersey.  I had a new, locked one stolen on private land the beginning of this past season.  This was my first time hunting in NJ.  I have hunted in New York (mostly), Pennsylvania and Maine and never before was the theft of a hunter’s property a consideration.  I ran into a few (3) bow hunter's this past winter bow season on Manchester WMA and commented that I was surprised how many permanent tree stands (no permanent stands are legal) I came across.  All 3 told me that is the only solution not to have stands stolen.

That,my friend ,is what we like to call spitework. The stands we had that were locked and couldnt be stolen, were damaged in the same manner with parts ripped off of them.Either anti's or people trying to discourage you from hunting "thier area".I would love to catch some SOB in the act because when he wakes up,his car or truck will be missing a few tires and the middle of the woods is not a nice place to be stranded. Remember ,dont get even, get ahead!!!!!

Nobody should steal stands!!!  Beat the sh*t out of whoever you catch and call the police.
Posted:  12 Feb 2007 8:56 PM
Yea zone 25, on private property no less.  Like I said if I see my stand I am going to cut the whole tree down.  I also have several cameras that i ahve now hidden and locked around the property to catch the bastards.  Hopefully I can get a look at some thing.

Nothing would make me happier! The problem is that they are cowards and will either do it under the cover of darkness or when they are absolutly sure no one else is around .We are certain they live less than 1/2 from the entrance to the WMA so they know the best times to hit and are working in pairs to so it is becoming difficult to catch them in the act.I may put up a hidden game cam focused on the stand instead of the bait and turn it over to law enforcement if it yields their identity.

I look at hunting public land this way: Yes, it is open for hunting to the public ,but my portable stand is my personal property even if it is being used on public gamelands ,just like the mall is open to the public.  If I park my car there even if I choose to leave it parked overnight ,It is my personal property and it does not give some assh*le the right to mess with it or steal it .If I do catch them messing with it ,they will have hell to pay ,it's as simple as that!

If I'm walking around and find a hot spot and there's a stand there I steal it. If I come across a feeder and Its active I steal it. If I come across a camera on a bait pile and the pile is being hammered I steal it.

I really don't do this but this is the mentality we are dealing with. 99% of the time its our fellow (jealous) hunter who is stealing.

I hang nothing but portables, and over the years had a lot of them stolen. I just bought a climber this year to give it a try but I'm still not comfortable with it.

I have a camera and a feeder my wife got me for Christmas last year and I wont use them because I don't want them stolen. Thats a F'd up way to go about your hunting isn't it? What a lovly state we live in.
