NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Road Survey / Big Buck At Work
Posted:  18 Jan 2007 4:02 PM
This morning while pulling into the parking lot at work I saw a really big buck (both antlers and body)walking on the rail road tracks. My LT saw the buck as well, he is also a hunter. I wish we could hunt with the bow in this area. We both agree the deer is roughly 180lbs. he was a thick 10 pointer roughly 22" spread

More and more each year....across the street from the prision is a large track of woods the state ownes, I've looked into hunting it a few years ago, too bad Woodbridge doesn't allow hunting

I used to see alot of deer around where I work--Bayside State Prison in Leesburg. There used to be some nice bucks but you just don't see them around anymore

Its amazing to me how these deer can adapt to living anywhere .... even in industrial areas, just give them a little woods.

I think those railroad tracks are a main route for deer. West of you, I've seen them on the tracks
around the junkyards on Leesville Ave, etc. Going the other way, Ive seen them on the tracks all through Woodbridge over there .... Blair Rd, and where Roosevelt Ave goes over the tracks near the NJ Turnpike exit. That exit is in Carteret, I wonder if Carteret allows hunting? .... there's all that wasteland where the river empties into the kill.

Then he wouldn't be there.

Someone'll get him.

People sneak in everywhere.

When my brother first got on an agency he worked for human services down in Woodbridge. He used to tell me there were TONS of pheasants down there...but nobody liked the idea of shooting a shotgun by the prison!

I work in Avenel (Essex Ave.) and have been seeing deer just about every morning and evening. Bucks and Does! Last year on my way in to work on a early Saturday morning there was an eight pointer feeding on the lawn of Proctor & Gambel. I have also seen deer on the PSE&G property and surrounding area. With all of the industry and homes it is amazing how many deer are in this area.

I would never hunt in places that either your not allowed, I don't have permission, or without a permit. I would rather drive over 1 hour to the area I hunt harvest typical public land small bucks then to take a huge buck near my home or work illegally

Joe that Buck was seen over by the Rahway Marina. Not a bad place for an ambush.

I have seen him numerous times passing by there.... I have seen his tracks on the flea markets grounds just behind the fence he hangs out near the Incinerator too there on the corner By Rte. 1...
