NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / How To / What brand of bow should I buy
Posted:  01 Dec 2006 10:31 PM
I have a Hoyt Spectra Mako that is about 15 years old. I think its about time to update to the new technology that has past my bow twenty years ago. What brand of bow should I buy? Should I use aluminum or carbon arrows? Choices, choices, choices, what to do? Help.

Pick any of the following....

Hoyt, Bowtech, Matthews, Ross

Those ar in my opinion the top 4 and no matter which you buy you cannt go wrong.

shoot as many as you can get your hands on and buy what feels best.

I recently bought a Ross, it was the best bow for me.

I beg to differ "DARTON" ALL THE WAY

Darton is the company that invented the hybrid cam system or cam an half as Hoyt calls it, they also feel the best in your hand. Anyone that has ever felt and or shot a Darton bow can tell the grip on the Darton riser feels great in your hand.
Plus it wont brake your bank account

I would check out the Darton Marauder before I made my decision on a new bow, For the money you can’t buy a better bow ANYWHER.
Read up on it for yourself http://www.dartonarchery.com/dartonmarauder.gif

Try a few out and see what feels the best. I bought a Mathews Switchback last year and love it. It felt like a perfect fit so that's what I went with.

try out a few in the price range you want to spend, and go with the one that feels right

I have a sweet deal on a Hoyt Ultrasport for you. Heck you have even shot it already.

This is the correct answer..
99% of the companies have the same technology; so shoot as many as you can. Only you can tell which is the best for you.

IMHO anyway (although it probably hold no weight) the grip and feel of the bow is the most important. Theyll all put the arrow where it needs to go if you do your part.

Depends on how much $ you want to spend.Today it seems like all mfgrs make a great product. You don't have to spend a ton of $ to get decent performance.AS others stated, try a few to find what fits you best and you like.Good luck.

I have a Parker Outfitter. It had everything I needed to get started. I guess it all depends on were you are at in you bow/archery career. But I would have to agree, go with whats comfortable in every aspect...

shot a darton for years then picked up a mathews- used, took two shots, bought it on the spot. Cant say enough about it!

I shoot Matthews....try a few different brands and pick the one that feels best.  Bowtech, hoyt, darton....shoot as many as possible then make a choice.

If you pick up a Golden eagle bow in Wally world and it fit and is comfortable to you then thats the bow to go with.

Hoyt is what works for me I've had bows this year. Hoyt X-tec, Ross 331, and back to a Hoyt Vectrix.

Just beware of companies that need to sell you with 3 to 4 page adds, and need to put a dozen silencers on them to quiet them down.

i like the way my pse feels. if i hade the money i would get a matthews or hoyt

mathews in my eyes beats hoyt by far.. But ill tell you what, that G5 comes in a close second for smoothness. i still went with mathews, for the guarentee on their limbs... im not sure what other companies guarentee. but if you dont have the funds for a mathews, definately check into the G5...

and definately carbon arrows.. you should find the Maxima arrows to fit your price well, and they are extremely durable

Considering he asked the question in December 2006...why is anyone responding? I sure hope he bought a bow by now.

Does that frustrate anyone besides me?  I had a response all typed out and then I saw your answer and realized how old the post was.  This seems to be happening a lot lately.

Seems like someone is pulling up old posts/threads and responding to them...to build up their post number?  Yes, frustrating is a good adjective
