NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Field Testing and Evaluation / Nikon Omega BDC muzzleloader scope?

Has anyone tried the Nikon Omega BDC muzzleloader scope?

I'm interested in buying one of these scopes for my new Encore and I have to admit this BDC reticle has gotten my attention...any reviews or opinions on this?

What I don't like about it is that it's set up for 150 grains of powder,I won't be using over 100. plus how can it be accurate for all types of sabots. I'm weary of it.

Dbuck...I happen to use 150 grains (3 pellets) so it kind of appealed tome...it doesn't say which sabot they used in testing, I'm assuming the Shockwave since they used a T/C Omega rifle...I use the Shockwaves also, but I agree with you regarding how accurate can it be with various bullets...If I'm not mistaken you can get the same scope without the BDC reticle...

On my present smokepole I have a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster

I have a Simmons Aetec 2.5-10X44. It's great in low light conditions.

It may be a really good scope but the reticle bit seems like a gimmick to me and probably not that useful unless hunting where long shots are common.  I personally think that with modern ML and the right bullet/charge combo you can shoot flat enough to not need a reticle like that one - at least in this neck of the woods.

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm on my Omega.  I like it.

Good luck - there are lots of good scopes to pick from.

I have a $130 Swift 3x9 on my Omega. Pretty good scope for the money. I'd put it up there with any of the higher priced "brands".

I have the Nikon BDC Reticle mounted on my .50 cal TC Omega. I shoot 3, 50 grain pellets with a 250 grains TC Shockwave. It was a bit of a pain to sight in. At 100 yards, less than 1'' groups are a breaze. Ive only shot out to 225 yards, due to a lack of avaliable ranges with longer distances. At 225, 2'' groups are possible, if you are an accomplished shooter. I happen to be a former Marine Corps Sniper and Marksmenship Intrsuctor of 6 years, so I tend to demand more out of my shooting. Competition scope ? Probably not !! Top end Hunting Optic ?  Absolutely. Enjoy, and best of luck to all of my fellow NJ Hunters this year !!

I don't plan on shooting 150 grains but got the scope for the 5 inch eye relief...

For all of you who are interested in this scope, here's some info for you which was attained from directly speaking with a Nikon rep: 1) while the BDC is designed for the 150 grain bullet, you will still need to verify the actual placement of your particular gun, and 2) they make this scope in a non-BDC reticle, the Nikoplex reticle, which is available on the matte version only.  I've recently bought this scope for my slug gun with the Nikoplex reticle.  I will be writing up a report when I sight it in.

No it doesn't.  But here's a question for you - do you really need a camo'd scope, instead of a matte black one?  After all, if the deer can tell the difference between a camo and black scope, you should've shot it by then.
