I must be lucky then. Rubs and early scrapes all over the place in my piece. Acorns are the size of walnuts.
I went in there the other night to hang my stand and jumped a nice buck about seventy yards from where I hunt the piece. |

Yep that was me, we call that area "The Pheasant Fields". You were the one with the GPS?
I'll be out there on Sat, not sure where yet have to wait on the conditions. If you are willing, PM me where you guys will be so my buddy and I stay away from the area. I think you'll have company up there, but the oaks are good...always hold deer and those sawtooths are spitting like crazy. |

| not sure what you mean by look for acorns. in my part of zone 21 scrub oaks with acorns are everywhere so its hard to pick a spot unless there are lots of tracks. there are also a few white oaks.i enjoy stalking into the rye fields or setting up a ground blind but the state hasnt planted rye the last 2 years. other than baiting or hunting the state planted fields its tough going till the early rut.its not like hunting farmland or up north. you actually have to get out and look.im just comparing from years previous but i have seen way less out on the strips and tracks around the 4 areas i have baited for my brothers. | ||

| i usually hunt the back side to the bird fields off 539.the mornings i spend hunting on the other side of the road just past the fire tower and down a couple miles. the chiggers were bad last friday.there usually not gone till about the 2nd week of october. i dont think the full moon is until next week and the weather should be on the cool side saturday morning so i predict a great day. best of luck to all you piney hunters. i will be at the new super duper wawa for coffee.maybe wendys for lumch. they sure did butcher the woods at the rt 70 intersection. | ||

| nj hunter- i guess your not into baiting but bringing it up in a negative light all the time isint good for hunting relations. we as hunters should try to all get along. not gonna try to change your mind but i feel if baiting helps to bring in game so a hunter can harvest an animal cleanly and quickly and set up as to allow perfect shot situations who cares. i dont think your gonna kill a monster buck off bait anyway. to me its no different than sitting on a corn field. i have areas i bait and ones i rely on the rut. its all good.hunting in the pines i can show you places so remote that there isint a bait pile within quite a distance. im sure of that so if you want unspoiled woods its easily had. if it bothers you just hunt private land then.ive had guys come in and bait areas near my stands that i have hunted for years without seeing a soul. although not happy i would help them drag a deer out. theres plenty to be had.good luck saturday! | ||

I'm sure of that so if you want unspoiled woods its easily had. Quote: your right it does help for this
so a hunter can harvest an animal cleanly and quickly and set up as to allow perfect shot situations anyway hope you have some good luck also this sat. |

The only woods I'd consider semi "remote" in NJ would probably be Wharton. Nothing else is really all that big IMO.
What pieces here can you walk 2+ miles and not hit a road, dirt path, etc that gives people/hunters easy access? |

Wharton State Forest, on the borders of Burlington and Atlantic counties, is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System, with over 110,000 acres. EDIT: Just saw your reply. Yeah SF vs WMA. I never realized Greenwood was that large to be honest. Never hunted it...but that's a nice size piece. You know Greenwood, but hunt the Mill? |

| I like having room to move when need be...I'd probably prefer Greenwood just for the shear size, might have to check it out. The Mill is OK, not an easy piece to hunt though but reasonably large. Most all areas are relatively easy to get to though. | ||
