RGS,  I have a question:

How do you get the mannequins to match the muscular dimensions of the individual deer?  Do you buy them with the exact measurements of the deer or do you have to modify them?

I use two measurements, the first, from the end of the nose to the inside corner of the eye, the second, around the neck just behind the ears. These are for shoulder mounts and sometimes you have to alter portions of the form to fit. For life size I add the length from the end of the nose to the base of the tail, and circumference at the belly. Then you still have to build a mount with alterations.

RGS,

In your opinion, are there any particular ways the ears are set that look better or worse than others?  I have 2 mounts with the ears cupped forward, but I was wondering if they would look any better in their relaxed (natural) position.  Maybe it's just personal prefence?

I like then with one back and one slightly forward, but some forms look better with the ears back or forward, I leave it up to the customer.

Rich,

Do you have any pictures of deer mounted with his head down(about even with his shoulders) and turned like he is sneaking through the woods? I always thought that was a cool look.

Thanks,
Dave

I usually talk my customers out of the sneek positions as they dont look that great. If the customer wants it then so be it. Here is a photo from http://www.mckenzietaxidermy.com you can look at all of there positions.
