Any recommendations?

I recommended Artie, but he's from Sussex and doesn't want to travel!

Noon is somewhere from Sussex and does good work.

I had work done by the guy above the Hainesville General Store on Rt. 206 in Montague.  Good work.

You friend may want to rethink that.  His mount is going to be around for a long time.  Take a look at some of the work that http://www.rgswildlifetaxidermy.com/ has completed for the guys on this site.   I don't know the shop personally but the work looks top notch.  It may be worth the ride to have his keepsake done correctly the first time.

George Dante of Wildlife Preservations is one of best around hands down, he is located in Little Falls, about 1/2 hour from Sparta

Outlaw is another fine taxidermist.  He's in Passaic County (Clifton).  Check out photos of his work on www.jerseyjaystaxidermy.com

Some guy in work mentioned a Gordon Bonker, or something like that anybody ever hear of him?

I just got my deer back from John Noon and I thought he did an excellent job.  It was my first and I brought it to him based on the recommendation of many of my friends.  He finished it in six months and he is a very nice guy as well.  I have no reason to go any place else.

Dante is the best though, he's hard to beat. But he also has the highest prices around. I had my pintail done there and it looks great, but it cost me. Also had 2 whitetails done back in 96 and they still look great.

I agree 100% with your total statement, but I would rather pay top $$$$$$ for quality then to pay a few $$$$$$ less, for crap work

I know and met Rich S. he does great work, we had him display at our Game dinner, you're all right about two thing money and travel time isn't as important as getting a great mount done! i've seen some shitty work in my days and money shouldn't be an object if you want it done right.

I have 2 whitetails that Dante did and they still look good 10 yrs later. But I also have a whitetail that Jim from strut your stuff did 7 yrs ago and it also still looks great. Jims prices are way cheaper than Dante. Dante gets his prices because people hear good things about him and so they trust him more so in turn he jacks his prices up. And as long as people keep going to him he will continue to raise prices. I also have 2 whitetails from a guy up in NY on 42 above Port Jervis that also still look good 9 yrs later and he's also way cheaper than Dante. I like Dante and his work but if you look around you will find quality work from other guys

I agree with you with the fact people hear great things about George, but his prices aren't because of that. His prices are high because of the detail he puts into his work. For example is his bear mounts, he doesn't use the heads that come with the mannequin, George molds his own from hand the reason being is that those mannequin heads don't show enough detail, they are always either way to big or small for the cape, also on all life size game mounts he even does the genitals, not many taxidermist will do that unless they are doing it for a big time clinet. George also rebulids the nasel cavity of his mounts, once more not many taxidermist go into detail like that. Some taxidermist use a dry type of tan versus sending it out for a professional tan, once more it cost more to send out and will last longer then a dry tan. I take spending my money serious like we all do, and when I was looking for a taxidermist years ago I looked at many here in NJ, some of the work was good, some was OK, and a few I saw was garbage. I found George by luck, went and saw his work and I was sold. I took a few guys there, and some of you are on here, and you can honestly say that George's work is top notch, and in detail, with that you will pay for quality of work.

I agree that he does top notch work. But I can honestly say that if you put all my heads together you can't tell which one came from George. If I shoot an Oldsquaw or something unique I will go to George. But unless I shoot a record book buck I'm saveing my money

Joe all taxidermist build a bear mount, we don't just mount it. The size difference between one bear and another are drastic, and need quite a few changes.

I have only put together three lifesize bears that didn't need alterations in the 35 years I have been in the business.

I know George and yes he is a good taxidermist along with many others. But he is not, "the only person in town". Joe you need to look around at other good taxidermist's work and you will see what I am talking about"".

after seeing some of the work that george does, i instantly handed my buck over to him. not only was i impressed with his past work, but no other taxidermist made me feel as confident with their work as george did.
