Hey does anyone know consistently good places to duck/goose hunt in southern Ocean/Atlantic counties? I went to a few places last year, and they all seemed like pretty good habitats, but no ducks or geese. The best I saw was a flock of swans in Stafford Forge. I am asking now because I'd like to get out and scout terrain and whatnot this summer to get an idea of where I will hunt over the winter. I'm not asking for specific spots, just general areas that I can go out and scout. I'm looking for a place I can go without a boat, either a lake/swamp or field. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The whole coastal water ways.  Look at the WMA maps and also, USFG Refuges.

I know the flyway is right here, it's just a matter of actually finding a place where the birds are. Every place I went to this season that was open to hunting was bird-less. And without a boat I have no clue where to start.

To hunt on the cheap, get a canoe.  You need a boat to kill waterfowl.

There's a spot I scouted back in Stafford Forge that looks like old flooded timber that empties into a huge lake. Does anyone know this spot and has anyone ever hunted it?

I hunted it a few years ago.  Pretty thich that place is.  I hunted the first of the second season did OK, but I have other spots that are closer to me and better.

Try Fortescue WMA. Not too far from you and I hear some good stories from there.

try island beach state park, you can hunt below the high tide mark there,Or manasquan wma.

Your spots may have been good, this past season wasn't a banner year for ducks and snows, atleast for me and a few others, my regular spots were slow and at times duckless.

I hear you need a boat.  After trying to hunt birds without a boat I decided to build one. Here is a picture of my new duck hunting boat.  You too can build one in just a few weekends for around 400-600.  Maybe less if you don't have to buy too much in the way of tools.

jex, Colliers mills has a huge field across from their main entrance that I see geese there day and night.  I could tell you about 50 spots I always see ducks but you will need a boat to get to them.  Tommy was telling me he finds spots in the marsh gr [no swearing please] that he just uses waders to hunt from for ducks.  Where in ocean county you from?

I'm down in Little Egg Harbor. I actually went out to check out some places this afternoon. Stafford Forge was ok, had a few ducks and geese there with some good access. I also checked out Great Bay WMA which was filled with birds, so I have some ideas to where to scout once the weather turns cooler again.
