NJ Hunter / New Jersey Politics & Guns / NJ Firearms ID Card / What Happens After I Get My Handgun Permits?
Posted:  17 Apr 2006 5:50 PM   Last Edited By: JimL
I'm waiting for my two handgun permits to be approved. I did not really understand what the officer was telling me as he was fingerprinting me (or he was unsure).

When I get the call that my permits are ready, I go to the police station, sign for them, and then go out and buy my two handguns before the permits expire? That's it, right?

Or do I need the model and serial numbers of the handguns I am going to purchase before I pick up my permits?

Or, do I have to return something to the police department after I purchase the handguns?

Also, where's the best place to buy handguns, price wise? I'm in northern NJ. I guess Ray's has the most in stock, but I hate that place. Sometimes I stop in at Harry's when I'm down that way, although I believe Sportsman's Center has better prices on everything.

Thanks

Jim, you're correct. Pick up the paperwork, sign it, and you have 90 days to use it.

You don't have to pre-select anything, and you can shop around all you want.

You're right--Rays sucks. Harry's is good in my opinion (to give you an idea--Rays is 10 min. away, Harrys is 45+ min. away, and I shop at Harrys).

If you're "way" up north, you might want to check Davis Sports in Sloatsburg NY, right on Rt. 17. Thave good prices AND---very important---a NJ store for delivery of your handgun.
